ABOUT ME AND MY ARTWORK

I was born and raised in West Sussex in 1998 and as a child I had a very specific eye for any random object I'd find aesthetically pleasing, it could be anything from flowers or one of my play toys which I'd get a hold of and I would draw or paint it. This is something I continue to do in my work today.

My current work stems from my curiosity of Still Life and the control I have over the inanimate objects I use to make a composition. I aim to use man made and natural objects that I find pleasing to the eye which could be anything from food, antiques or anything I find in my house which I would then make a series of works from. I have experimented with a range of different mediums such as acrylic and oil paint, however I specialise in drawing and currently compressed charcoal and charcoal pencil is the medium I'm using in my work.

I like my drawings to have an emphasis on light and dark, so I would often use artificial light against my composition to intensify the shadows and the reflection of the light source. I have worked from life although I would typically draw from photographs.

Influences within my work include Paul Cezanne, the structure of his still life scenes inspired me to think about how to lay out the objects I choose and the use of sheets and cloth in his work inspired to me to include some more texture in the foreground and background of my pieces.
